ทบทวนหลักการเติม s หรือ es ท้ายคำกริยา
จากโครงสร้างของประโยคที่แสดงในใบความรู้ที่ 1 (ตารางที่ 1) เราทราบว่าถ้าประธาน (subject) เป็นสรรพนามเอกพจน์บุรุษที่ 3 (he, she, it) หรือเป็นคำนามที่เป็นเอกพจน์ เช่น a boy, a student เป็นต้น กริยาจะต้องเติม s, หรือ es
นั่นแสดงว่า คำกริยาบางคำจะเปลี่ยนรูปโดยการเติม s ในขณะที่บางคำก็เติม es
หลักการเติม s หรือ es ท้ายคำกริยา
1. คำกริยาส่วนมาก มักเติม s ท้ายคำ เช่น
He plays basketball every weekend.
She usually walks to school.
It falls down real fast.
2. คำกริยาที่ลงท้ายด้วย o, s, ss, sh, ch ให้เติม es ท้ายคำ เช่น
Linda goes shopping every Saturday.
A child kisses her parents before going to bed.
He watches TV every night.
3. คำกริยาที่ลงท้ายด้วย y มีการใช้เป็น 2 แบบ
a. ถ้าหน้า y เป็นสระ (a, e, i, o, u) ให้เติม s ท้ายคำได้เลย เช่น
She pays her aunt a visit.
A boy plays tennis with his friend.
The girl prays every night
He stays at the Empress Hotel
b. ถ้าหน้า y ไม่ใช่สระ ให้เปลี่ยน y เป็น i แล้วเติม es ท้ายคำ เช่น
The boy cries loudly.
She tries to tell him to go back.
Don studies English at school.
